Born Jonathan Francis Gries in California, the son of
writer/director Tom Gries, Jon was exposed to the
entertainment industry at an early age. He started his acting
career at the tender age of 11 playing the Boy Horace in the
Charlton Heston film Will Penny. He went on to gain roles in a
wide variety of television shows and movies but is best known
for his role in Napoleon Dynamite as Uncle Rico, and more
recently as recurring character Roger Linus on Lost.
A longtime character actor with the unique ability to alternate
between meek and menacing at the drop of a hat, Jon Gries
can play a computer wiz in films like Real Genius or a South American mercenary in The Rundown with equal zeal and conviction.
With over 30 years in the industry Jon has forged a very solid career while working with some of the top actors in the craft. Very recently
he worked with Liam Neeson in the role of Casey in the
film Taken. Among his television roles are that of a
terrorist in season two of the hit show 24 and as Broots
on the NBC series The Pretender. You may even
recognize him from a few episodes of Seinfeld including
"The Beard,"in which he played a bum to whom Kramer
gives Chinese leftovers, but who later refuses to return
Kramer's Tupperware container. He again played a bum in
the Seinfeld episode "The Bookstore," in which he ends
up stealing Kramer and Newman's rickshaw.
And the list goes on...
Recently however one of Jon's proudest accomplishments
is as director and producer of the award winning feature
film Pickin & Grinnin which won BEST COMEDY at the Albuqurque Film Festival and BEST FEATURE at the Flagstaff Film Festival.
