What the heck is a table read?
Why should I do a Table Read?
A read-through is often a surprisingly powerful tool for identifying problem areas in the script. Wooden dialogue, unbelievable situations or boring sections of the film which have not been addressed during the script development process are often discovered in the read-through, and may now come under intense scrutiny.
The read-through, or "table-read"
is one stage of film and theatre production when an organized reading around a table of the screenplay or script by the actors with speaking parts is conducted. The read-through usually takes place towards the end of pre-production but before the rehearsal period, if any has been scheduled. It gathers many of the cast members and production team to go through the script together.
